Sheila Walsh has a new devotional book out! I’ve always thought Sheila was a deeply insightful writer, and this book is packed with thoughtful short essays with one purpose. Sheila said she wrote this devotional to give busy people the opportunity to focus on God regardless of how swamped you feel. The book is small enough to add to a medium size purse or computer bag for devotionals on the go and yet beautiful enough to sit on a coffee table. Some of the readings are excerpts from books while others are original writing. The scriptures for further meditation are conveniently printed at the end of each chapter.
Each title accurately reflects the subject matter focused on. I love that, because it gives someone the ability to focus on the reading they are drawn to instead of reading in order or randomly flipping to a specific page. One of the biggest things I loved about the formatting of this book is the fact that there are no dates suggesting a specific passage be read at a certain day. Many devotionals are designed to give a new reading each day. Although these are great, I’m a rule follower by nature and I find that reading ahead leaves a twinge of guilt floating above ;). 5 Minutes with Jesus gives the ability to read at your own pace without feeling like you are behind or need to catch up.
I’d recommend this book to any Sheila Walsh fan for sure, any also anyone you are wanting to introduce Sheila to. I’ll have this book out on our coffee table in the hopes that college students who are hanging out pick it up and spend a few minutes reading.
