Book Review: The Comeback

“When you are in the midst of a storm, it’s hard to remember that God is always good and glorious, and that God’s plans will always prevail, even when yours don’t.”  “What I’m saying is this: if your dreams have seemingly gone up in smoke, or in a sudden burst of wind and hail, don’t count God out of the equation.” The Comeback by Louie Giglio

If you are like me, these two sentences alone were the exact reminder you needed…and this is just from the introduction.  Giglio’s The Comeback is a compilation of modern day stories and bible stories with one common theme…”Whatever our individual story is, our story joins a larger story: a story of people who have stumbled and fallen, a story of people whose lives were messy, a story of people whose lives were broken and confused, yet they were invited to experience the ocean of God’s love.”

Joseph, Moses, the prodigal son, the thieves on the cross with Jesus when was crucified are all mentioned along with athletes former exotic dancers and Giglio’s own story segments.  I found the detailed insights of scripture brought a fresh perspective to stories I’ve heard since childhood.

Giglio’s humor is present, along with his bold honesty.  The stories from present day are so inspiring.  They are a great reminder that our stories are all reflected in scripture, and we are all part of one larger story.

I ordered this book for a friend in a rough season of life, and as much as I know they will be inspired and comforted, I think this book is a great read regardless of your season in life.  I give it a 5 out of 5 stars.

In exchange for an honest review I was given a free ecopy of this book via booklookbloggers.  The opinions expressed are my own.  **affiliate links present
