God Delights in Responding with Grace

31 Days on (1)

To start at the beginning of my Write 31 Days posts head over here.

“But here is what the one who brags should boast about. They should brag that they have the understanding to know me. I want them to know that I am the Lord. No matter what I do on earth, I am always kind, fair and right. And I take delight in this,” announces the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:24

Jeremiah Chapter 9 is titled A Lament over Zion. The Israelites are in the distant part of their circular relationship with God.

  • v. 2 all of them are adulterers
  • v. 3 proceed evil from evil
  • v. 4 be on guard against neighbors
  • v. 5 liars

“The Lord said, “Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice nor walked according to it, but have walked after the stubbornness of their heart and after the Baals, as their fathers taught them,” therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, “behold, I will feed them, this people, with wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink.  I will scatter them among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them until I have annihilated them.” Jeremiah 9:13-16

As the passage chapter continues God’s compassion is once again on display.

v. 17 Consider and call for the mourning women that they may come.

23 Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord.

Essentially, stay humble about the gifts and abilities God has given to you, and instead, brag about knowing God. God delights in us when we delight in him. When our choice is to put God first our heart and mind align with our creator.
