We leave tomorrow for our first adventure of the summer. I’m looking forward to dipping my toes in the ocean and watching the sunset bounce off the water!
Growing up our family vacations mostly over spring break. As I entered high school and went with youth groups on trips along with college trips to Young Life camp top my list of favorite memories. Here’s my top five for Mrs. Disciple’s #FridayFive
Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista Colorado was our Young Life camp. It was always an adventure doing anything with our YL team, but camp was one of those things you just never forget. I keep a picture of the view from my favorite morning devotional spot in my bible to this day.
Our summers in St. Louis with littles always included a few trips to the zoo. It’s a great one if you are in the area try to check it out! Over the year highlights include the butterfly exhibit, baby giraffes, and the year our college-aged babysitter was an intern, and we got behind the scenes looks at everything.
This summer marks our 15th wedding anniversary. Our wedding and honeymoon still top the list of favorite summer memories. A sunny day in June in the Chicago suburbs. Our special day was one to remember for sure. Our honeymoon was a week at an all-inclusive resort. We quickly learned that “vacation” meant very different things to us. I had planned the whole week of laying by the pool and reading, Ordell expected a week of sightseeing and adventure. We compromised with one day rest one day adventure and had a great time.
Growing up in the Midwest we always spend time in the summers catching fireflies. I’m happy to say my kids also enjoy this activity. Spending an evening outside with no agenda except enjoying the moment is thankfully a memory I have that has repeated itself from year to year.
Another summer memory that repeats itself is Pre-Season camp! For many years these were weeks I dread. These days I’ve come to allow the excitement of the players reporting, the practices building up towards the first game, and all of the crazy stories the coaches share at dinner as they reflect on the day become an enjoyable tradition. For everything, there is a season, and for us, summer means the start of football season!
