Share Four Somethings June 2021

It’s June and we’re finally starting to feel settled in our new home. We’ve collected a number of Amazon boxes, hired a landscaper, and even hosted our first guests! It’s fun to finally have a list that filled with so much variety to include for this month’s share four somethings. As I look at the month of June 2021 I realize it’s the first month that seems like we’re finding that sweet spot of new normal. It’s a great feeling!

Here’s My June 2021 Share Four Somethings

Something Loved

This month we were blessed by Ordell’s parents who generously pitched in to help us check several items off our move-in checklist including getting our boys’ rooms decorated, painting trim, and even hanging drapes and a few photos.

Shortly after that some of my favorite people stopped by for the night on their way up North. Harmony, my dear friend (an amazing editor) generously allowed me to join her and her girls on an adventure in Chicago for the day. We went to The American Girl Doll Store and The Cheesecake Factory. The girls were delightful to watch as they walked through the store seeing some of their favorite stories presented in museum-like displays. I quickly snapped this photo as we were on our way to the train station. The ladies dropped me off as they headed north.

I then spent the next 2 1/2 hours on the Amtrak headed home to my crew with cheesecake to enjoy at home. It was a wonderful 24 hours that I hope to extend and repeat soon!

Harmony Harkema - A Well Juggled Life

Something Read or Said

I’ve been working through my GoodReads shelf and knocked out two Lisa Whittle books this month while I’m slowly reading through AJ Swoboda’s book After Doubt. Both W(H)OLE and Jesus Over Everything have been on my “must read” list for a very long time. One thing I love about Lisa is that her writing is timeless. W(H)OLE was published in 2011 and every word was as relevant today as it would have been had I read it the day it released.

{w}hole: an honest look at the holes in your life — and how to let God fill them is a vulnerable, raw, book about how we will fully thrive when we allow God to fill the holes in our lives.

Jesus Over Everything reminds us that I=in a culture that carries the confusion of overindulgence, endless options, and influencer voices, the Jesus-first life clears our minds and hearts of noise so our souls can find true meaning and rest. Lisa covers every area of our lives and challenges us to reflect on how we may need to place Jesus over that area of our life.

Something Treasured

This month Ordell and I celebrated 20 years of marriage. Our anniversary landed on a Wednesday. 2 years ago we had planned to spend this week away on a trip. Well, of course, things have changed. That trip will happen, but somehow, spending year 20 with a simple dinner date and a movie at home seemed fitting.

Something Ahead

Embracing Holy Interruptions

Late in May I finally released my 6-week Bible study Embracing Holy Interruptions: How Jesus Used Mundane Moments to Love People Deeply! I am so grateful for all the people who helped get this project over the finish line. Angel, Ordell, Bridget, and of course Harmony were invaluable as I worked to complete this project.

Now I’m looking forward to leading a few groups this fall! I’m going to offer an online study via zoom and an in-person option as well.

Of course, you don’t need me to lead you through this study. It’s great for individual and group study and you can start it this week!

I’m linking up with Heather Gerwing for another month of Share Four Somethings. Head to her blog to see what other people are sharing this month! We’d love for you to join us!

  1. Congratulations on so many exciting moments – settling into a new home, releasing a new book, and of course a milestone anniversary! May God continue to provide and bless!

  2. So many congratulations are in order! Anniversary, published book, getting the house decorated. I’ll admit I am very jealous of your road trip with Harmony and the girls!!
